Europäische Union ohne Grenzen?

Abstract

Anfang dieses Jahrzehnts schien der künftige Weg der Europäischen Union vorgezeichnet: Der Erweiterungsprozess sollte fortgesetzt werden, und der Vertiefungsprozess sollte in eine gemeinsame Verfassung münden. Mittlerweile tritt wieder etwas stärkere Skepsis zutage - sowohl gegenüber einem gemeinsamen Verfassungsvertrag als auch gegenüber einer unbedingten Erweiterung der Gemeinschaft, etwa um die Türkei. Im Verlauf der Tagung des Wirtschaftspolitischen Ausschusses des Vereins für Socialpolitik, die vom 14.-16. März 2006 in Göttingen statt fand, wurden unter dem Rahmenthema Europäische Union ohne Grenzen?" verschiedenste Aspekte von Erweiterung und Vertiefung der Europäischen Union sowohl bezüglich ihrer aktuellen Auswirkungen als auch ihrer künftigen Bedeutung diskutiert, wobei erste Erfahrungen mit der Osterweiterung der EU und der Europäischen Währungsunion reflektiert werden konnten."
