Abstract

Der Aufnahmeantrag Polens hat für die EU aus politischen und historischen Gründen Priorität. Bevölkerungsgröße bei gleichzeitig geringem Pro-Kopf-Einkommen und agrarische Prägung des Landes können aber im Falle eines Beitritts besondere Probleme schaffen. Der Band dokumentiert die Ergebnisse einer Tagung des Deutschen Instituts für Wirtschaftsforschung, des Arbeitskreises Europäische Integration und der Warsaw School of Economics zu diesem Themenkreis. Die positive und erwartungsvolle Haltung zur europäischen Integration auf polnischer Seite hebt sich deutlich von der innerhalb der Union oft verbreiteten Skepsis ab. Ein Beitritt Polens ist durchaus möglich; Vertiefung der Integration und Erweiterung der Union sind hier nicht unvereinbar. Jedoch sind erhebliche Anstrengungen auf beiden Seiten - in Polen und in der EU - erforderlich. Die Beiträge analysieren die wirtschaftlichen, politischen und rechtlich-institutionellen Probleme und stellen Lösungsansätze vor.
