Abstract

Werner Wilhelm Engelhardt war einer der bedeutenden Köpfe der Gerhard Weisser-Schule der Gemeinwirtschaftslehre und der Sozialpolitik. Dabei ging es insbesondere um die Rolle der Genossenschaften und um ähnliche Sozialgebilde im Kontext des Dritten Sektors und der Zivilgesellschaft. Dies war eingebettet in die Suche nach einem »Dritten Weg« und fragte dergestalt nach geschichtlich machbaren Utopien. Werner Wilhelm Engelhardt war einem neu-kantianisch geprägten ethischen freiheitlichen Sozialismus verbunden. Er war ein interdisziplinärer heterodoxer Außenseiter in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften. Das führte oftmals auch zu durchaus schmerzhaft erlebten sozialen Ausgrenzungen in der Wissenschaft im Kontext der zeitgeschichtlichen Entwicklungen nach 1945. Die Werkanalyse ist integriert in eine psychodynamische und kulturgrammatische Reflexion des Feldes von Orthodoxie und Heterodoxie. Das Werk ist heute eine unvollendete Aufgabe für die soziale Verantwortung zukünftiger Generationen.
