East Asian Energy System Management Challenges

Abstract

This special issue of Energy Strategy Reviews is dedicated to explore the prevailing and challenging policy issues in the East Asian energy sector with a focus on energy market integration in East Asia and a few critical energy and environmental issues in China. The energy markets, specifically the electricity markets in East Asia are still at the early stage of market integration and a clear regional cooperation framework needs yet to emerge. There are even doubts about the benefits of such a regional market integration. Therefore, clarification of the impacts of energy market integration and practical suggestions on how to move forward is important for future energy policy making in this dynamic region. In addition, investment and environmental issues are always challenging, and controversial and thus worthwhile to examine.
