Situación actual e impacto del microcrédito en Colombia

Abstract

Este libro es el resultado de una agenda de investigación del Banco de la República en asocio con ASOMICROFINANZAS y quince de sus entidades agremiadas, cuyo objetivo fue analizar el impacto del microcrédito como instrumento de inclusión social y herramienta de desarrollo. Se publica en un momento oportuno, de cara a los grandes desafíos que afronta Colombia hoy en términos del acceso a productos y servicios financieros y la brecha de calidad existente entre las áreas urbanas frente a las rurales. El presente estudio muestra cómo la expansión de cobertura del microcrédito, derivado del trabajo de las instituciones pioneras en la implementación de la tecnología microcrediticia, atiende las necesidades de los empresarios. Se evidencia el potencial del microcrédito como instrumento de desarrollo económico, el impacto que este genera en la superación de la pobreza y el bienestar de las personas. Se aprovecharon los datos administrativos de las entidades que hicieron parte del estudio, junto con metodologías econométricas avanzadas, para analizar el comportamiento de los deudores y los riesgos derivados de su participación en este mercado, lo que permitió aclarar aspectos desconocidos. De esta manera, esta obra formula recomendaciones y da luz sobre los beneficios del microcrédito en la población que vive en pobreza y que responde de manera positiva a la oportunidad de vincularse con el sector financiero formal.
