Abstract

This study aims to identify teacher’s constraints, initiatives, and alternatives to train primary school tennis player to compete at district level. In addition, this study also aims to obtain expert agreement regarding tennis skills and appropriate equipment to be used to train students to play tennis without a court at school. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. The study subjects consisted of 3 primary school teachers who coached school tennis player, as well as 20 experts in the fields of sports science, sports psychology, physical education, module development and tennis coaching. The interview result found that the constraints of teachers to train their player are tennis court facilities and equipment, support systems and commitment. While the teacher’s initiative on the constraint is to prepare a team, using creativity and existing resources as a training ground. The results of the evaluation by experts in the field show that the skills that need to be trained without using the actual tennis court are sending and receiving for the tactical component while forehand, backhand, volley and serve for the technical component. The equipment needed to play tennis without a real court is a racket, a net, a level 1 tennis ball (red), a cone, a marker, and a marker line. In conclusion, as a result of this study, tennis can be played without using a real court to train basic tennis skills by using equipment agreed by experts. Based on the findings of this study, a tennis sports readiness module based on street tennis for primary school students needs to be developed so that tennis sports in Malaysia are more competitive in the future.
