IW-Bankenmonitor: Bringt die Bankenprüfung der Europäischen Zentralbank das Vertrauen in den Euroraum zurück?

Abstract

Bevor die Europäische Zentralbank die oberste Bankenaufsicht innerhalb der Bankenunion im November 2014 übernimmt, wird sie die 128 größten und systemrelevanten Banken des Euroraums einer umfassenden Bilanzprüfung unterziehen. Um die Konsolidierung im Bankensektor und den Aufbau der Bankenunion wissenschaftlich zu begleiten, wurde der IW-Bankenmonitor entwickelt. Die Auswertungen deuten darauf hin, dass der Großteil der untersuchten Banken stabil ist, während bei einem kleinen Teil der Banken erhebliche Probleme zu vermuten sind. Um den Ausbruch einer erneuten Vertrauenskrise zu vermeiden, sollte die Europäische Zentralbank schon jetzt ihre Lösungsstrategien für den Umgang mit diesen Problemen kommunizieren.
