Konzentrations- und Schrumpfungsprozesse in deutschen Regionen und Großstädten bis 2030

Abstract

Seit der Jahrtausendwende nimmt die Anzahl der Einwohner in den deutschen Metropolräumen und Großstädten wieder zu. Das gilt auch für Ostdeutschland. Mit der stark angestiegenen Zuwanderung aus Mittelosteuropa und infolge der Krise in Südeuropa dürfte sich der Wachstumstrend in den deutschen Städten fortsetzen. Die steigende Studierneigung der Schulabgänger begünstigt die Urbanisierung zusätzlich. Dagegen wird sich der Bevölkerungsrückgang in vielen Teilen des Landes beschleunigen. In dem folgenden Beitrag werden Entwicklungsszenarien für die sieben größten deutschen Metropolregionen und die Städte mit mehr als einer halben Million Einwohner bis zum Jahr 2030 vorgestellt. Außerdem werden die Folgen der zunehmenden Diskrepanz zwischen den wachsenden Zentren und einer von Rückgang und Alterung der Bevölkerung geprägten Peripherie diskutiert.
