Beschäftigungsentwicklung in Ostdeutschland: Räumliche Muster und Hinweise auf einige Determinanten

Abstract

Eine Untersuchung der räumlichen Beschäftigungsveränderungen in den neuen Bundesländern ergibt, dass in den Landkreisen und kreisfreien Städten sich die Beschäftigung um so besser entwickelt hat, je geringer die Lohnzuwächse waren. Weiterhin haben die kreisfreien Städte an Beschäftigung verloren, die dünn besiedelten Landkreise hingegen Zugewinne verzeichnet. Ein weiteres Ergebnis ist, dass aus der Randlage an den Außengrenzen der neuen Länder nicht automatisch Beschäftigungsverluste oder ein überdurchschnittliches Wachstum der Arbeitslosigkeit resultieren.
