Symbolisch oder echt? Die politische Beteiligung junger Erwachsener in Deutschland online und offline

Abstract

Da die Wahlbeteiligung in den letzten Jahren besonders bei jungen Erwachsenen gesunken ist, richten sich Hoffnungen zur Erhöhung ihres politischen Engagements auf Verfahren der Online-Partizipation. Indem die Beteiligung an konventionellen und unkonventionellen Partizipationsformen und die Motive dafür erhoben werden, kann geprüft werden, ob es sich bei Online-Beteiligung primär um Zeitvertreib, um symbolische Handlungen oder um ‚echte‛ Partizipation handelt. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass auch online das Motiv der Einflussnahme von großer Relevanz ist. Beteiligungsangebote im Internet werden intensiv genutzt, am Häufigsten allerdings von jenen, die auch konventionell partizipieren. Darüber hinaus können vor allem „young critical citizens“ durch das Internet zu Partizipation angeregt werden.
