Potenziale deutscher Städte in Zeiten des Wandels. Analysen auf Basis der Raum- und Stadtbeobachtung des BBSR

Abstract

Städte haben vielfältige Aufgaben zu meistern, verfügen dafür aber auch über umfangreiche Potenziale. Diese Potenziale stehen nicht für alle Städte gleichermaßen zur Verfügung. Jeweils lokal sind deren Umfang und Zusammensetzung auszuloten und entsprechende Handlungsperspektiven zu entwickeln. Insofern zeigt der Beitrag nur grundsätzliche Möglichkeiten für zukünftige Entwicklungen deutscher Städte in Zeiten des Wandels auf. Die historisch gewachsenen und immer wieder bewiesenen Stärken der europäischen Stadt weisen zugleich auf Chancen und Zukunftsaufgaben hin: die Kultivierung von städtischen Transformationsprozessen - seien es nun Wachstums- oder Schrumpfungsprozesse. Insgesamt verspricht der derzeitige gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Wandel nicht zwingend eine Renaissance der Städte als bevorzugte Wohnorte. Er bietet jedoch vielfältige Möglichkeiten, die in jeder einzelnen Stadt je nach den lokalen Ressourcen auszuloten sind. Es wird folglich notwendig sein, eine gezielte Politik pro Stadt zu betreiben, Städte als Wohn- und Arbeitsort attraktiv zu gestalten.
