Abstract

Zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts rücken gesellschaftliche und politische Umwälzungen die Schule in den Fokus des Staates. Er etabliert zunächst ein zweigeteiltes Schulwesen mit einfachen Volksschulen für die Masse und Gymnasien für eine kleine Elite. Zwischen ihnen entsteht das mittlere Schulwesen, doch erst die gemeinsame Grundschule macht aus dem Nebeneinander ein zusammenhängendes System.
