Abstract

L'articolo esplora le condizioni lavorative dei giovani early school leavers in Italia in un periodo caratterizzato da una prolungata crisi economica e da un processo di dequalificazione della struttura occupazionale. Le analisi empiriche, basate sulle ondate 2005 e 2014 dell'indagine ISFOL-PLUS, rivelano che le opportunità di impiego dei giovani che hanno abbandonato precocemente il sistema formativo sono notevolmente peggiorate nel tempo, sia in termini assoluti che nel confronto con coloro che hanno raggiunto un diploma o una qualifica professionale. Fra le possibili determinanti di questo peggioramento, l'articolo discute la maggiore selettività del gruppo degli early school leavers ed il fenomeno dello "spiazzamento" dei lavoratori mediamente qualificati. I risultati mostrano inoltre marcate differenze di genere ed in particolare uno svantaggio moltiplicativo negli esiti occupazionali delle giovani early school leavers, ancora più marcato nel Mezzogiorno.
