Abstract

This article analyzes the evolution of PIBand growth factors in Ecuador from 2018 to 2021. The introduction discusses the importance of PIBas an economic indicator and highlights the relevance of this analysis for understanding the Ecuadorian economy during a period of significant changes. The main objective is to evaluate the PIB's performance and the factors influencing its growth, including public and private investment, domestic consumption, foreign trade, and fiscal and monetary policies. The results show modest PIBgrowth in 2018 and 2019, driven by public investment and domestic consumption. However, in 2020, the economy contracted by 7.8% due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to significant increases in unemployment and poverty. In 2021, the economy began to recover thanks to fiscal stimulus measures, social support, and a massive vaccination campaign. Themost affected sectors were trade, tourism, and manufacturing, while agriculture and telecommunications demonstrated greater resilience. In conclusion, the pandemic highlighted the vulnerability of the Ecuadorian economy and the need for flexible and diversified economic policies. Government responses were crucial in mitigating the negative impacts and facilitating recovery. This analysis underscores the importance of continuing to research. economic sectors and implementing policies that promote innovation, technology, and economic resilience.
