Abstract

This study analyzes business dynamics in Ecuador during the 2018-2023 period, focusing on the effects of economic cycles and the COVID-19 pandemic on businessformation and closure rates. It evaluates the impact of the Simplified Joint-Stock Companies (SAS) framework, introduced in 2020, which streamlined regulatory processes and facilitated business creation by eliminating bureaucratic barriers. Advanced analytical methods were used to uncover key trends in business formation and closure, providing insights into patterns of business formation and dissolution. The results reveal a significant increase in business closure rates during 2020, primarily impacting sectors such as tourism and retail. However, the introduction of the SAS framework marked a turning point, enabling a 30% growth in business formation between 2021 and 2023, with notable resilience observed in technology and manufacturing sectors. The study concludes that the combination of regulatory reforms and digitalization enhances business resilience during economic crises. It also advocates for expanding these strategies to address future challenges, promote equitable regional development, and optimizestrategic decision-making.
