Abstract

Due to its simple structure and special flow mechanism, the Tesla valve is widely used in various microchannels. A three-dimensional new-fashioned micromixer was designed based on the Tesla valve-typed structure. A simulated annealing algorithm was used to optimize the width of the microchannel (h), the height of the microchannel (s), and the spacing of the mixing unit (λ), and the effects of geometric parameters on mixing efficiency and pressure drop were investigated. Then, the mixing efficiency of different sizes of micromixers under four different Reynolds numbers (Res) was analyzed and compared. The mixing efficiency of the optimized micromixer is more than 99% at Re=10,100. This is mainly because the liquid flows through the width of the microchannel (h) to form two streams of liquid, and then remixed together, form secondary flow and local vortex. The direction of the fluid flowing through the height of the microchannel (s) changes, and the two fluids collide, thereby greatly improving the mixing effect.
