Abstract

The Rayleigh–Taylor (RT) instability occurs in many dynamic plasma systems, from the impoding laser targets to planets and collapsing massive stars. In two different wave-number regions, the RT instability could be respectively described by the unstable and stable nonlinear Schrödinger equations, the former also models the nonlinear modulation of the high-frequency mode in the electron beam plasma. In this paper, for those types of nonlinear Schrödinger equations, we perform computerized symbolic computation and find some similarity solutions. Dark and bright solitons are also seen.
