The exploration–exploitation tension has been resonated and applied in diverse areas of management research. We attempt to grasp the structural pattern of citing behaviour and collective understanding among scholars, through conducting in-depth bibliographic review in a complete population of articles on this topic, published in leading journals following March [(1991).
