Abstract

Evidence of periglacial mass movements on hillside and mountain slopes, when late Pleistocene permafrost extended across the high‐floored Wyoming basins, has been exposed in trenches and road cuts. Phenomena indicating a 2 metre deep active zone include gelifluction deposits, bedrock creep at the top of steeply dipping strata, and displaced slabs on laminated shear zones in both sedimentary and metamorphic bedrock. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
