Abstract

The terms grèze and grèze litée, introduced by Y. Guillien to define a special type of slope deposit, are often not well used by authors. It is necessary to recall the initial definitions. The grèze is a sandy and gravelly material produced by frost shattering: mode 2.5 mm, maximum size 25 mm. The use of the term éboulis ordonnés as a synonym for grèze litée should be avoided because this type of deposit accumulates by solifluction and runoff processes, not by successive rockfalls.
