Europäische Wirtschaftspolitik 2024. Zwischen externen Schocks, strukturellen Problemen und der Notwendigkeit eines Produktivitätsschubs

Abstract

Das Jahr 2024 war sowohl in der EU als auch im Euro-Raum von schwachem Wirtschaftswachstum geprägt. Die Arbeitslosigkeit erreichte dennoch einen neuen Tiefstand. Die Inflation im Euro-Raum näherte sich dem Zielwert der Europäischen Zentralbank an. Diese lockerte 2024 schrittweise ihre Geldpolitik und senkte ab der Jahresmitte die Leitzinssätze. Ausgehend von der Konjunkturschwäche sowie der Produktivitätslücke gegenüber den USA und angestoßen durch die Letta- und Draghi-Berichte war die Diskussion der EU-Wirtschaftspolitik auf langfristige strukturelle Probleme gerichtet. Die Europäische Kommission stellte Anfang 2025 einen Kompass für die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der EU vor. Ein Ziel der neuen Kommission wird die Entbürokratisierung und die Vereinfachung des EU-Regelwerks sein.
