Deutliche Straffung der Geldpolitik trägt zur Inflationsdämpfung im Euro-Raum bei

Abstract

Die Europäische Zentralbank (EZB) setzte 2023 weitere Schritte zur Straffung der Geldpolitik. Die Bilanz des Eurosystems wurde rascher und stärker reduziert als jene der Federal Reserve Bank oder der Bank of England. Das Kreditvolumen wuchs in Österreich etwas kräftiger als im Euro-Raum, aber weniger deutlich als 2022. Ein Rückgang der Kreditvergabe war vor allem bei Wohnkrediten zu verzeichnen. Die Kreditqualität blieb 2023 trotz der vermehrten Insolvenzen, der trüben wirtschaftlichen Aussichten und der hohen Zinsen hoch. Die Aktienmärkte erwiesen sich angesichts der kräftigen Straffung der Geldpolitik und ausgeprägten geopolitischen Risiken als sehr widerstandsfähig.
