Wirtschaftspolitisches Forum: Deflationsgefahr und Auswirkungen auf die Wirtschaftspolitik

Abstract

Das WIFO analysierte in einem Workshop die Gefahren einer möglichen deflationären Entwicklung und deren Folgen für die Wirtschaftspolitik und kommt zum Schluß, daß in Europa und den USA keine Deflation besteht. Die weitgehend stabilen und teils sinkenden Preise sind einerseits die Folge einer weltweiten Nachfrageschwäche bedingt durch die Südostasien-Krise und der Konsolidierungspolitik in Europa, die zu einem Verfall der Rohwarenpreise führte, und andererseits dämpfen auch technische Neuerungen und die Intensivierung des Wettbewerbs durch den Globalisierungsprozeß die Industrie- und Dienstleistungspreise.
