Abstract

The main objective of the study is to determine the place of Bulgarian beekeeping in the international trade in honey and bee products. European countries are the largest importer of honey worth 1,09 billion USD, or 49,1% of world imports. EU exporters such as Germany, Spain, Belgium, Poland and partly Romania are such by importing honey which they re-export. Bulgaria has very small imports compared to them and Hungary negligible, i.e. they are traditional honey exporting countries. Bulgaria has serious potential to maintain and develop its international export position not only of conventional honey and pollen, but also of their biosegments. Queen bees and brood, royal jelly and honey bee venom, including their biosegments, have export potential in the future due to higher added value and profitability.
