Abstract

The article reveals the nature of the term "competitiveness" and its regional dimensions. Being studied international and European dimensions of competitiveness of the rural areas. Appears importance of the LEADER approach as a tool for measuring the territorial development of rural areas. Defined term "environmental competitiveness of the rural areas", based on the need to apply the ecosystem approach for assessing rural development. There are key components to assess the environmental competitiveness of the rural areas.
