Diversification of the export structure Andean Community: analysis through the Herfindahl-Hirschmann index

Abstract

The need to create economically integrated spaces that facilitate and promote the free movement of goods, services and factors, assume an increasing importance, in this sense, a diversified export structure improves the quality of integration in trade and promotes economic growth Sustained in the economies. This study performs an analysis of the concentration or diversification of the export structure of the Andean Community member countries, for which the calculation of the Herfindahl-Hirschmann Index (HHI) covering the period 2000-2015 was used as methodology. The results show that the Andean Community experiences a highly concentrated export structure.
