Abstract

La cordillera andina divide el Occidente de Venezuela en dos zonas climáticas: Sur-oriental y Nor-occidental, caracterizadas por la variabilidad en el volumen de las precipitaciones, desde el clima muy seco hasta el perhúmedo. El trabajo consiste en clasificar las estaciones meteorológicas en grupos que reflejan unidades geográficas homogéneas, desde el punto de vista pluviométrico. Para esto se emplearon dos técnicas: el Análisis de Componentes Principales (ACP), que permite constituir grupos de estaciones en base a las precipitaciones mensuales, durante once años, y el método STATIS, para examinar más detalladamente el aspecto evolutivo. La aplicación del método STATIS permite completar y proponer explicaciones a la clasificación obtenida, anteriormente, con el ACP.
