Penyertaan Bumiputera Dalam Industri Pengangkutan Jalan Raya: Pencapaian dan Prospek

Abstract

This paper attempts to examine aspects of Bumiputera participation in transport sector in Malaysia with special reference to public and freight transport. The examination begins with a general survey of their participation since Independence up to the introduction of NEP (New Economic Policy). A more detailed examination was undertaken on their involvement in the industry for the period during which the NEP was being implemented and their prospect for the post-NEP era. It was found that Bumiputera participation was generally small for the period before NEP but improved significantly after the policy was launched. It is believed that continuous intervention from the government is necessary to sustain present performance and improve future achievement. A change in policy and approach towards transport industry is also suggested to the policy makers in order to nurture a genuine and motivated participation among Bumiputeras.
