Efectos de variaciones del tipo de cambio en los países en desarrollo

Abstract

Este artículo pretende examinar los efectos económicos de variaciones del tipo de cambio en países en desarrollo. Éste considerará, primero, la importancia para una investigación empírica de estos efectos económicos, de definiciones alternativas de tipo de cambio. Luego serán analizados el impacto de variaciones en el tipo de cambio en las exportaciones e importaciones. También serán investigados posibles efectos en el producto, la distribución del ingreso, la inflación y transferencias internacionales. Finalmente, serán mostradas las implicancias de políticas en países en desarrollo. El trabajo se centra en la habilidad del tipo de cambio, para ser una herramienta de política económica en países en desarrollo. En vista de las preguntas que surgieron acerca de la efectividad de este instrumento en los países menos desarrollados, particularmente en el Sub-Sahara de África, el caso de estos países recibe una especial atención en este trabajo.
