Una interpretación de la declinación económica de Jamaica, 1968-1985

Abstract

En 1974, después de dos décadas de crecimiento sostenido, el PGB de Jamaica comenzó a declinar para luego estancarse. El punto de quiebre coincidió tanto con shocks externos a las exportaciones jamaicanas y a las importaciones de petróleo como con el cambio de su régimen económico de uno liberal a uno socialista. En 1980 se retornó al régimen liberal, pero el crecimiento no se reanudó. Este trabajo pretende explicar los cambios en el PGB entre 1968-1984, usando un modelo de crecimiento simple para los tres subperíodos y por medio de la comparación de ellos, ofrecer una separación entre efectos del régimen institucional y los efectos externos.
