Instabilité politique, IDE et effets sur la croissance économique dans les pays d’Afrique subsaharienne : un modèle à équations simultanées dynamiques

Abstract

La présente étude analyse les conséquences de l’interaction entre l’instabilité politique et les investissements directs étrangers (IDE) sur la croissance économique pour 31 pays d’Afrique subsaharienne (ASS). Nous introduisons un indicateur agrégé d’instabilité poli-tique construit à l’aide d’une analyse en composantes principales de plusieurs indicateurs de risques politiques tirés de la base de données de l’ICRG. L’étude utilise une procédure de panel dynamique et la technique des triples moindres carrés pour estimer un modèle à équations simultanées sur la période 1984-2015. Les résultats du modèle indiquent que l’instabilité politique affecte la croissance économique aussi bien directement qu’indirectement par le biais de son impact sur les investissements directs étrangers. Nous mettons également en exergue le caractère simultané de la relation entre l’instabilité politique et le niveau de développement économique dans les pays d’ASS. Les résultats de l’étude corroborent ainsi l’idée selon laquelle l’instabilité politique freine la croissance économique tirée par les investissements directs étrangers et appellent à une série de mesures permettant d’améliorer la qualité des institutions politiques.
