Abstract

Computer crimes, in their true sense, typically involve unauthorized access, sabotage, theft of data, or theft of services. The occurrence of such crimes and other information security breaches continue at a fast pace, but there is much more criminal activity occurring in cyberspace than organizations are willing to report. The purpose of this paper is to identify current trends in computer security intrusions, to determine why they are not being fully reported, and to discuss one of the primary sources of United States criminal law that is available to law enforcement authorities for the punishment of computer crimes.
