Abstract

This paper explores the self-rated intelligence-profile inventory based on the seven dimensions of Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences in the sample of Finnish peacekeepers in Kosovo. The other goal is to test the instrument as a self-assessment tool to evaluate one’s spiritual sensitivity, the eighth spiritual intelligence dimension. Bayesian network modeling was used to study statistical dependencies between variables. Alpha values were calculated for the eight MI scales operationalized by seven dimensions for the first seven MI scales and four dimensions for the eighth spiritual intelligence scale. The results suggest that “bodily-kinesthetic” and “interpersonal” dimensions emphasizes the operational and social aspects of peacekeepers’ intelligences. The theoretical model of spiritual intelligence does not operate at its optimal level with this sample. Practical implications of this study point out possibilities for peacekeeper candidates to self-evaluate their gifts and talents relevant to peacekeeping mission.
