Abstract

Communication and control are two intensively coupled aspects in a networked control system (NCS), the design of one may affect the quality or performance of the other. The co-design problem of control and communication scheduling for NCSs has attracted tremendous attention. This paper provides an overview of recent advances in control and scheduling co-design for networked control systems. First, a basic framework of control and scheduling co-design problem setup is established. Second, representative results and methodologies reported in the literature are reviewed and some in-depth analysis and discussions are given, along the lines of the scheduling schemes including static scheduling, dynamic scheduling, and random scheduling. Finally, some unsettled issues and trending topics in this direction are outlined for future research.
