Polarization-insensitive triple-band compact FSS-based absorber

Abstract

This paper introduces a triple-band absorber insensitive to polarization and characterized by wide-range angular stability. The proposed absorber design incorporates two distinct closed-loop resonators and a modified Jerusalem cross. This structure exhibits absorption efficiencies of 99.76%, 97.2%, and 99.3% at frequency of 4.98 GHz, 9.97 GHz, and 14.4 GHz, respectively, when subjected to normal incidence. The unit cell's dimensions are 0.15 $ \lambda _0 $ λ0 × 0.15 $ \lambda _0 $ λ0,where $ \lambda _0 $ λ0 is the wavelength in free space. The prototype demonstrates polarization insensitivity under various angles during normal incidence, maintaining over 80% absorption up to $ 60^{\circ } $ 60∘ incidence angles in TE and TM modes. A model of the proposed design was fabricated, and the measured outcomes are closely align with the simulated outcomes. The proposed structure offers a low profile, multiband functionality, compact size, insensitivity to polarization, and wide-range angular stability.
