Study on over-mode groove-guide slow wave structure for W-band bidirectional traveling wave tube

Abstract

In this paper, we introduce a novel over-mode groove-guide (OMGG) traveling wave tube (TWT) design and simulation methodology. The OMGG configuration permits larger electron beam tunnels horizontal dimensions, alleviating the spatial constraints of the tunnel in conventional slow wave structures (SWS). The over-mode characteristic of the OMGG allows the propagation of the operating mode without compromising the essential beam-wave interaction required for efficient amplification. Particle-In-Cell (PIC) results indicate that the OMGG TWT significantly enhances output power in W-band TWT. This advancement offers a promising approach for developing high-power, efficient TWTs suitable for millimeter-wave (MMW) and terahertz (THz) technologies.
