Abstract

The wave propagation mechanism in a 1D metal cut-wire array is investigated. It is shown that a surface wave can be supported along the interface between the cut-wire array and the air region in multiple frequency bands. The propagation constant, attenuation constant, and the field distribution of the surface wave are extracted from both numerical simulation and measurement and are compared between the 1D and the 2D cut-wire arrays. The effect of array geometrical parameters on the surface wave propagation is examined through parametric studies.
