Abstract

Executive Summary. As the number of refereed scholarly journals grows, authors have to choose among a wider range of outlets for their work. A survey of academic real estate authors in the United States reveals that perceived quality of a journal is most important in choosing where to submit a manuscript. Faculty at doctoral degree-granting institutions and AACSB-accredited schools place more importance on promotion and tenure considerations, while faculty at teaching colleges are more concerned about the ease and fairness of the editorial process. Thus, editors wanting to attract the best research should focus on authors’ perception of their journal’s quality and create an atmosphere of openness and fairness to all authors.
