Industrial Employment Densities

Abstract

This study examines the results of a long-running study of floorspace-to-employment ratios in U.K. industrial property. The objectives of the research were to identify the densities generated by a range of industrial building type and to gain a picture of how those densities move over time, in particular with relation to economic cycles. The research was empirical, taking a telephone survey of a quota sample delineated by size and location. The findings show clusters of densities by five different building types and postulates that the number of employees in employment is the main influence upon density.
