Abstract

MILLINGTON J. (2000) Migration and age: the effect of age on sensitivity to migration stimuli, Reg. Studies 34 , 521-533. A review of the migration literature reveals a lack of studies that explicitly examine the relationship between age and sensitivity to migration stimuli. Poisson modelling techniques are employed on British inter-county gross migration ows to produce results which emphasize the importance of age disaggregation in empirical migration studies. Allowing for a variety of migration stimuli, responsiveness to spatial labour market disparities declines through the lifecycle whilst the converse is true of housing and amenity effects. Les techniques de modelisation du type Poisson se voient employer pour les ux bruts de migration entre les comtes de la Grande-Bretagne a n de produire des resultats qui soulignent l'importance de la decomposition par age pour les etudes empiriques de la migration. Obschon eine Vielzahl von Anregungen, aus-, bz.w. einzuwandern, auftretcn konnen, nimmt die Reaktion auf raumliche Stellenmarktunterschiede im Laufe der Jahre ab, wahrend in Hinsicht auf die Auswirkung von Wohn- und Annehmlichkeitsverhaltnissen das Gegenteil zutrifft.
