New development: The role of benchmarking in supporting improvement in local government— Scottish and Welsh practitioners' perspectives

Abstract

Local councils need to deliver improved outcomes for their citizens. This article explains why councils, individually and collectively, need to understand and compare their performance by making better use of performance information to plan service improvements. This should extend to councils' partnership activities and not just those services delivered directly by councils.
