Abstract

This article provides an overview of some of the most high-profile mergers between major media and content corporations, both in domestic and international scope. After reviewing the market situation at the time of each merger and the concerns around potentially anti-competitive consequences, we examine the conditions under which the proposed mergers were approved. In doing so, we summarise the views competition authorities had about the proposed mergers and draw some implications for regulators and potential applicants in future mergers in the media and content industry.
