Private and Social Rates of Return to Higher Education in Science and Technology in a Caribbean Economy

Abstract

In view of the emphasis placed on higher education in science and technology in the Commonwealth Caribbean Community, the present study estimates private and social rates of return for university science and technology graduates in Trinidad and Tobago. Comparisons are made with other fields of study. It is concluded that rates of return are inconsistent with the allocative preferences of policy-makers.
