The effect of income on satisfaction with spouse’s economic contribution in China

Abstract

This study uses two waves of data from the China Family Panel Studies to investigate the effect of income on satisfaction with spouse’s economic contribution among couples in China. We find that the level of personal income is important in determining one’s satisfaction with spouse’s economic contribution. The wife’s income level tends to associate with the husband’s satisfaction towards to wife’s economic contribution in general and among dual-earner couples. The husband’s income is not significantly associate with the wife’s satisfaction in general, but it matters for dual-earner couples and husband-only earning couples.
