Management Versus Leadership Meanings, Models

Abstract

Despite abundance of the literature, there is still much ambiguity regarding the distinction between management and leadership. The purpose of the article is to examine the main paradigms and their evolution over time, in order to establish sets of skills and specific activities for managers and leaders. A critical analysis of the management and leadership literature is realized, from Plato to the present day. The article contributes to a better understanding of the differences and the commonalities between leadership and management, offering to managers new solutions on how to approach the activities which they perform.
