Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Wahl zum Europäischen Parlament Ende Mai 2019 hat einige Entwicklungen gezeigt: Die Wahlbeteiligung ist deutlich gestiegen, die großen Volksparteien haben Verluste erlitten, aber der befürchtete Siegeszug der europaskeptischen und populistischen Parteien blieb aus. Angesichts der auf Staaten bezogenen Wahllisten und der degressiven Proportionalität stellt sich zwar die Frage nach der demokratischen Legitimität. Die Ergebnisse der Wahl werden aber breit akzeptiert. Wie die einzelnen Fraktionen des Europäischen Parlaments dann tatsächlich abstimmen, lässt sich nicht immer eindeutig der Parteifarbe zuordnen. Hier gibt es die unterschiedlichsten Koalitionen. An Aufgaben fehlt es in Zukunft allerdings nicht. Die Agenda des neuen Parlaments reicht von der Industriepolitik, über Arbeitnehmerfragen bis zu einer sozial gerechten Klimapolitik.
