Abstract

Zusammenfassung Erhebliche regionale Disparitäten werden in Deutschland von einer Abwanderung aus strukturschwachen Regionen begleitet. Theoretische Modelle liefern keine eindeutigen Aussagen über die Effekte der Wanderung. Empirische Befunde zeigen dagegen, dass die Mobilität zu einem Abbau der Unterschiede beitragen kann. Selektive Wanderungen können Disparitäten allerdings auch vertiefen. Die Persistenz der regionalen Unterschiede in Deutschland und mögliche negative Effekte einer Abwanderung hochqualifizierter Arbeitskräfte aus strukturschwachen Regionen sprechen für eine effektive regionalpolitische Unterstützung dieser Regionen. Zudem sollte eine Koordinierung der regionalpolitischen Förderung mit arbeitsmarktpolitischen Maßnahmen erfolgen.
