Abstract

Demographic change is putting pressure on the German health care system. In reaction to the problems caused, there will be a hospital reform in 2015. The focus of the proposed reform is to maintain accessible and high-quality hospital care. Structural changes are not proposed. Therefore, the extent to which the reform proposals may be an improvement upon the status quo is questionable. Against this background, the paper analyses the current proposals from an economic point of view. Copyright ZBW and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015
