Abstract

This paper proposes an energy planning of an energy system, framing it as a multi-objective optimization challenge that seeks to balance several competing goals. The focus is on three primary objectives that are critical for the efficient and sustainable operation of the energy system. The first objective centers on minimizing the emissions and operational costs associated with energy generation. This involves not only reducing the environmental impact of energy production but also ensuring that the financial expenditures related to generating and distributing energy are kept to a minimum. By addressing this objective, the study aims to promote cleaner energy practices while also enhancing the economic viability of the energy system. The second objective addresses consumer dissatisfaction regarding electrical demand. In many energy systems, fluctuations in demand can lead to periods of excess or insufficient supply, which can frustrate consumers. This paper emphasizes the importance of aligning energy supply with consumer needs, thereby enhancing user satisfaction and ensuring a more stable energy provision. The third objective focuses on the discrepancies between actual electrical demand and its optimal levels for the upcoming day. This aspect is crucial for maintaining a balanced energy grid and involves smoothing out demand profiles through a demand flexibility strategy. This strategy is particularly innovative as it incorporates the optimal adjustment of electrical demand by utilizing deferrable loads devices or systems that can shift their energy consumption to different times without significantly impacting their performance or the comfort of users.
