An inventory model for deteriorating items towards trapezoidal type demand with preservation technology

Abstract

The present study proposes an ‘EOQ’ model using Trapezoidal type demand for deteriorating items. The deterioration rate is controlled by preservative technology. This may result in enhanced shelf-life of the deteriorating items like fruit and Vegetables, which expedite the retailer’s profit. The shortage is allowed as partial backlogging. In addition, ordering cost, holding cost, purchasing cost of items, and deterioration effects over goods were considered for optimal inventory management. A profit maximization approach is proposed per inventory cycle. Further, the concavity of the profit function is proved and numerical examples are given to support the results of proposed model. Sensitivity analysis is applied to find the most sensitive variable from all demand function parameters.
